everyone knows what happened at the finish line of the boston marathon. all of our hearts were aching for the those that were put in harms way. but being a runner, my heart ached much more. the wednesday after the marathon, while out on my run i decided to run the salt lake marathon, in honor of boston. i just felt as a runner and salt lake marathon being the first marathon in the country after boston that this was a good way to show my support. that friday, i went to the expo and paid for my full marathon. went home looked at the weather and it looked miserable. though my first marathon (top of utah) was just as cold, with rain and hail, so i didn't worry too much. saturday came and i was freezing right when i got out of my car and didn't warm up until the finish line. i stopped feeling my hands at mile 2. all i wanted to do was run home. be done. but i kept seeing signs on the street the said "boston strong" and people wearing their different boston attire and reminded me why i signed up for this race. around mile 15 i called my mom to tell her to bring some towels and blankets. around mile 20 i was done! i couldn't wait to cross the finish line. mile 24 i saw my friends/coworkers wife that i love dearly at the final aide station with her arms opened wide. she gave me a hug and i started to get teary eyed and said to her that "i hate this, i hate this." she said "your almost done, your almost done. your awesome and just run, you've got this. your almost done." after i left that station and headed towards liberty park my mom called me telling me she's walking towards the finish line. i pulled it together and ran and ran and finally i saw the finish line. i saw my mom and i was done. i thought top of utah was my most miserable run. but this one takes the cake. freezing temps, freezing rain and freezing wind is not the good mixture for running 26 miles. but i did it and I'm sure i will be running in that kind of weather again....
