guilty.

their are many things that we are guilty of doing from time to time. some are silly. some are serious. but in this case mine is silly but in a way serious, in a runner sort of way. i guess. i do this one thing all the time, i actually did it this morning. if you are a runner you would totally understand the serious of this because 4.6 miles just isnt enough, we need the .4 miles. all you non runners will think this is silly. it is but isnt.

you got to be kidding me?

is no joke.
this was my last run during this years ragnar wasatch back.
i ran sometimes walked up 4.4 miles in 53 minutes.
im pretty impressed with that time, given that my team said that i would finish it in an hour.
and that i ran a marathon the weekend before and already ran 17.3 miles with my first and second run.
and i wont lie, i could do it again.
maybe ultra style where i would run the whole hill.
all 8.4 miles uphill to guardsman pass.
call me crazy. but i guess you can say im not one of those girls that "say" they like to run and really dont.
i really do like to run, if you couldnt tell already.

my friend caitlin fran invited me to spend friday night in springville so that i didnt have to drive down at 3 in morning saturday and then run the utah valley marathon and she was running the half marathon. so it all made sense to be 10 minutes away rather than 45 minutes away. friday i worked all day and caitlin was so nice to pick up my packet that day. i headed down to utah county right after work then we went to dinner with this kid named zac. we went to this mexican restaurant in springville. super good but it was a super bad idea. details come later. i will for sure eat there again just not the night before a race. we all enjoyed our dinner then caitlin and i went to walmart to get our gatorade and bananas. we went back to caitlins house and got ready for bed. 3 hours later we were up and getting our stuff together for the race. caitlin dropped me off at the marathon bus loading area and we said our "see you at the finish line" goodbyes.  i only waited for about 10-20 minutes till i was on a bus riding up to wallsburg where the starting line was waiting for people to cross it. about 30 minutes of waiting. the gun was fired and the clock started. less then 4 hours later i crossed the finish line and this marathon was finally done. shortly after crossing i found caitlin limping towards me. yes caitlin was running on a injured foot. crazy girl. but i would probably do the same thing. actually i did the same thing last year. running on a severely bruised patella. we got to the car and went to kneaders for there endless french toast. so good. you must try if you havent. shortly after eating my tummy rumbling and i was not feeling very good. all day saturday i was feeling like crap. i had some stomach virus going all. i blame it on the mexican food that i ate the previous night mixed with the nasty gu shots i had ate at every hour i was running. bad combo. i couldn't eat anything for the rest of the day. and given that i ran 26.2 miles thats not good to not replenish what i has just burned off. my saturday was spent in my bed watching movies and making many trips to the bathroom. but now that its monday i feel loads better and i am pretty much eating everything in my sight. now i am now half way down with my eventful june. next up ragnar wasatch back which is this weekend.

DQ

because i had to call in and fix my time and tell them that i ran for a friend. i was disqualified. whoops. oh well at least i know my time and have proof. yes i copied this pic. now i get to sit and watch a computer screen tomorrow morning to see is "jocelyn meek" flashes across the screen for the new york marathon. i highly doubt i get drawn. im just paying the $11 for the next three years because after three years of not being picked in the drawing you automatically get in the fourth year and since i tried last year and didnt get in. i am just planning on running the new york marathon in 2014. make it a family affair since wilson will be home from his mission then. well, cross you fingers still. not the most attractive face. but heck who looks good after they ran 26.2 miles in less than 4 hours.

Salt Lake Marathon 2012

so this is a very interesting story.
yesterday was the much anticipated salt lake marathon, a race that many runners across the country thought wasn't going to ever happen. within two months it was put together and exceeded runners expectations. now to my story. because i didn't know if this race was going to happen i never registered. i told myself that i wouldn't register till the day before because then i would know my $100 wouldn't go to waste. well about three weeks before the race a coworker of mine injured her foot and she registered for the race. so instead of registering, i ran for her. she was able to switch her half marathon to a full marathon and she picked up her packet and i ran. so yesterday i was candace jones.
now the second part of my story.
the race started at 7:00am for full and half marathoners. there was an early start at 6:15am. me knowing what its like to run in the heat and knowing that saturday was going to be hot, i started at 6:15. 6:15 came and i quickly got to the front of the pack. (but i lost that when i got really got while running past my parents street, so i took off my jacket and ran down my parents street to toss my jacket on the back porch and quickly got to the front of the pack). around mile 14-15 (8:00am) the first legit runner, the leader past me down at the cotton bottom. around mile 20 the first female passed me. around mile 23 the second female runner passed. finally i saw the mile 26 sign as i turned left off state street onto south temple. let me till you, my favorite part about the salt lake marathon is running on south temple past temple square ah i love it. finally i reached the finish line. the time clock said 3 hours and 8 minutes. my garmin watch said 3 hours and 49 minutes and 36 seconds. my mom was freaking out thinking my time was 3:08. i had to tell her that the time clock started at 7:00pm. i went home and looked up my times to see my real chip time and it says that i was the 3rd female to cross this the time of 3 hours and 8 minutes. today it STILL says that. yesterday and this morning i just couldn't figure out how my time is not listed for the correct time. this afternoon i finally figured out why my time is listed how it is now.
when you registered for this race, if you wanted to ran at 6:15am you had to click the early start. if you didn't do that you couldn't run. me not knowing that and wanting to avoid running at 10:30am with the heat. i started at 6:15am and cheated the system. if i was running under my name and not someone else's. i would be running in the  boston and new york marathon!!! haha i cheated the system.
because i feel bad for the forth woman who finished who technically should be third, i am having candace email the marathon people my real time, because i don't know if the third female finisher wins anything. so with my RIGHT time. here are my stats, if i was running not "candace" and not 40 years old

time: 3:49:36
overall: 206 out of 985
female overall: 39 out of 358
female 25-29: 10 out of 66

now i get to do this ALL over again in 27 days
bring it ogden marathon

jingle bells.

last saturday i did the jingle bell 5k run/walk
of course i ran
i took the place of a nurse that i work with. she forgot she has a funeral.
i told her well if you need a runner, ill run for you and just think if i run under your name, youll get a prize because i dont think the other people around your age (60) will get around 20-30 minutes.
well, i did win a prize
not only did i come in first in her age group.
i was the first female to cross the line.
oh
and did i mention my time?
i beat my fastest cross country time by 4 minutes
i clocked in at
18 mins 22 secs.
yes that is about a 5.8 minute mile.
thats fast.
i think it was because of my stripped socks and bells on the shoe.

ragnar: las vegas

the more and more i think about ragnar the more and more i feel the need to do another one. its tempting to see if you can join a group somewhere but that is also scary. people say ragnar is not fun, but they must not be runners and they must not know the right people or they are just not fun. because what makes ragnar is that one your a runner and enjoy it. two your fun and know how to have fun. three your running with a great group of people.

this trip was exhausting.
some people in my van left salt lake at 1:00pm. we got to nephi around 4:00pm it took us THREE hours just to get out of utah county. after that is was easy breezy. we finally go into st george around 7-8pm had some dinner at the brick oven. i ate all you can eat salad, soup and pasta. yuck. i hate pasta and i really dont know why i eat it. finished up. got some last minute things are target like paint to decorate our car. then headed off to las vegas. to the LV around 11:00pm and checked in and went straight to bed.

woke up early in the morning and headed to Lake Mead to check and have our first runner start. since we got off pretty late we barely made our start time which was 9:00am. our first runner started and the rest of the group 6 out of 12 got back in the car and headed to the first exchange to start my first leg. thinking that our first runner had our wrist band. btw this wrist band must be with the runner at all times, lose it and your done. well our runner came up to the exchange. didnt have the wrist band. went back to the car. no wrist band. thankfully they are so nice, they let me run while our van went back to get a wrist band. my leg was rough at first. kinda flat then started to go up hill. some people passed me. but i eventually passed them again because i was keeping my speed that same and it really benefited me when we really started running uphill. because those people started to walk while i kept running, running for 7 miles. oh and did i tell you. the heat at 9:30-10am was unbearable. i finished my run and relaxed till my next leg. all our runner finished up and passed the running onto van 2. while waiting for them to finish we went to walmart to stock up on water, gatorade, salty foods and ice then headed to the second major exchange so that our van can start our second leg. van 1 started our second legs around 5:30pm, way ahead of schedule. i didnt start my second run till about 6:15pm. it was just under 4 miles and the map of my run did not do justice on how hilly my run was. up and down and up and down oh and they were steep! finished my second leg and watched our next 4 runners. we were way ahead of schedule and we actually were getting towards the front of the pack. because around runner 5 van 2 called us saying that if we came into the 3 major exchange before 9:15 pm they were going to hold us till 11:15pm because we either were running too fast or because they didnt have the next exchanges up. so instead of pulling our runner off the road to wait we decided to finish up and head back to our hotel to sleep. we slept probably for a good five hours before we got the call from van 2 that runner 11 was half way through their run. we all got up and packed into the car to head to the fourth major exchange, our last major exchange. our first runner started at about 2am and finished around 3. i heard his leg was one of the worst ones. no support, pitch black and a dirt/rocky trail. so people were tripping, spraining their ankles, etc. after taking a 5 hour energy drink, a banana and waiting for about 20 minutes at the exchange it was finally my turn. i was kinda dreading this last leg because it went straight up 812ft then straight down 930ft for 7.3 miles. but man, like my first leg i kept my pace at around 9-9.30 minutes mile and finally 3.5 miles later reached the top. then i just booked it down hill for the last 4 miles. i think i clocked in at about 6.2-6.3 minutes per mile. i was listening to people as they drove by. "WOW" i think people thought that i was on the elite team. which i could pretend that i was for those last few miles. 60 minutes later i was finally was done with my leg and i was dont with the las vegas ragnar. now i just had to wait till my runners were done. the only bad thing is, i couldnt sleep because of the darn 5 hour energy drink. after our van was done we went out to for breakfast and then headed back to the hotel to shower and sleep and to wait for the call from van 2. finally the call came, we went to the finish line and finished at 12:30pm took our pictures, grabbed my saint and sinners medal and then skedaddled.
Ragnar has our time down as 27:30hours but minus 2hrs and 15mins we finished 188 miles in 25hrs and 15mins.
its all because of the shinglets the three teenage boys wore in van one.
just look at a picture, youll see.

till wasatch back ragnar.
im getting excited to run "the you got to be kidding me" hill or the "ragnar"
or
i have the possibility of being on an ultra team.
whats that?
6 people instead of 12 people finishing 196 miles.
yes
that means i run about 30 miles instead of 15.
until june!

the legs

i liked las vegas ragnar... i liked it. it was fun, i ran better this time around versus wasatch back. but the ragmag aka "the bible" was not very accurate on the miles for each leg and the elevation was completely off. my 2nd leg had more up and downs instead of a gradual climb and it would not consider it an easy run. it was moderate for sure. they needed more support legs, then needed more water for how hot it was. hello we are in a desert! and they needed more volunteers because since we were running so fast (not trying to brag) the first van, my van. finished our second legs before 9:15pm. because of that they held up van 2 for 2 1/2 hours till we could start up again. why? because we were either running too fast for the volunteers to set up the next exchanges or because the elite runners werent to a certain point. anyways. glad its over. i would never run las vegas, actually i take that back. but the best part was that i got a "saint and sinners" medal, because i ran wasatch back and vegas. im currently feeling a little ragnar deprived. i dont think i can wait till june for the wasatch back, but i guess ill have to. till june ragnar!

sojo half

last tuesday at work i decided to sign up last minute for the south jordan half marathon hence the sojo. a coworker of mine was running it and it was her first half marathon. so i figured ill run, mainly because if i ran two full marathons in the last month this half will be nothing, which it was. but ill cheer her on when she is crossing the finish line. anywho. as i was running my cousin amber caught up with me and we ran together for 11 miles. it was great because i was pacing her and she was pacing me so we stayed around a 8:30 minute per mile.

1hr:50mins:32secs
age group 8 out of 65
females 19 out of 295
everyone 94 out of 524

my very first.

after my canyon drive on sunday i was determined to run up any canyon. why not enjoy this nice autumn weather, the leaves changing by running up the canyon instead of cruising in my car with the windows down. so i did just that. instead of running up millcreek, which i eventually will some day. i got in my car drove to donner park. changed into my running shoes and ran up emigration canyon. i seriously cannot get over how beautiful it is. i ran up to ruths dinner which is 1.8 miles so that would give me a good 3 mile run, since i had to run back to my car, i didnt want to over do it because i ran 5 miles in the morning. remember, im training for my ragnar race this weekend. but on wednesday, i think instead of running two separate runs, i think ill have someone drop me off at the top of emigration and then ill just run home. ya i think im going to do that on wednesday. i have to soak in all of this lovely autumness in before the weather changes.. for the better that is. so heres to my very first canyon run. it will not be my last. obviously.

ragnar las vegas

this weekend i am heading down to las vegas. yea exciting right? yeaa no. im heading down to good ole vegas with 11 other people to run the las vegas ragnar. i dont know if i ever did a post of the wasatch back ragnar i ran way back in june. but what it is, is a relay from lake mead to vegas. its 188 miles split between 12 people. you have 2 vans, 6 people in each and each person has 3 legs to run. depending on the van you are in you will usually run a leg friday day, one in the middle of the night and one saturday morning. I am runner 12 and since i was runner 12 in june, i probably will run around 4pm friday, 4am saturday morning then finish up the race around 2pm saturday. oh and yes, this is a 30 hour race, so your running through the night! but it is crazy fun. im with the same people that i ran wasatch back with and they ae awesome. I head down to hopefully warmer weather, but not too warm on thursday so check back in on sunday for the low down and some pictures. and pray that i dont get hit by a drunk driver, because that has happened a few years ago. ekk. heres to the two runs a day training for the next couple of days! yea buddy.

Park City Half Marathon

October 20th was the Park City Half Marathon
it was pretty, but hard.
perfect weather!
and the elevation didn't really bother me.
my time was not what i wanted.
1:59:47
but beggars cant be choosers
plus
the last time i ran 13.1 miles was way back in June
so under 2 hours is pretty good considering i technically was not ready for this run.

Thank you to my cousin and her husband for letting me stay at their place in Park City
it allowed me to sleep in :)

19 days till my FIRST marathon!!!
